MT. HEALTHY, OHIO – The Mt. Healthy Renaissance Project is pleased to announce Christmas in Mt. Healthy, a city-wide holiday event, that will include activities all day on December 9th, 2017. Ten participating venues in our historic business district, all within an easy walk, will offer opportunities for fun, holiday shopping, crafts, and food and drink.  Sarah Young, a lead organizer and member of the family-operated Paul R. Young Funeral Home, whose family’s live nativity is in its 68th year, says, ”Our holiday open house brings thousands from across the Tri-State, and we’re excited that this year visitors can plan for an entire day of holiday fun in Mt. Healthy.”
Offerings will range from the traditional to the unique: from gift shopping at the antique mall and at the holiday artisans popup, a holiday ornament swap that allows people to trade their old holiday swag for new-to-them items, glass ornament making, horse-drawn carriage rides, to a shark feeding at the local aquarium shop. There will be food specials at local restaurants, and live music. Face painting will be offered, and tours of a historic 1833 home. The day can be topped off with a craft brew at the local microbrewery.
All events are free, with exception of a minimal charge for materials to make a glass Christmas ornament at Hilltop Glass Creations. Visitors are encouraged to consult the Facebook event page “Christmas in Mt. Healthy 2017” for details and a link to an interactive map for all of the locations. Free public parking lots are indicated on the map.
Some items of special interest include:
• Fiddle and mandolin bluegrass by Kitty McIntyre and Susan Shook at Brotherton’s Family Restaurant
• A holiday ornament swap, hosted by the Mt. Healthy Renaissance Project, where people upcycle and trade the old for some new-to-them holiday trimmings.

• A glass makerspace, Hilltop Glass Creations, where visitors make a glass ornament using various techniques.
• Watch a shark be fed at the marine aquarium shop, Aquatics & Exotics.
• A holiday popup shop for local artisan-made products, Village Artisans Café.
The open house and nativity at the Paul R. Young Funeral Home is in its 68th consecutive year, and has grown into a mini-street fair complete with a brass quartet, horse-drawn wagon rides, a manger with live animals, kettle corn and historic 1833 house tours. The life-size manger scene features wax figures created by Paul Young Sr., who learned this craft at Madame Tussaud’s Waxworks in London in the 1940s, after he completed military service in WWII. The family has been in this location since the mid-1940s, and its open house last year drew an estimated 2000 visitors.
